Finally, A Cardigan for Abigail

My neighbors baby shower came and went, and I was still not finished with A Cardigan for Merry. I finally finished this thing a few days ago, but it has been taking forever to dry!

This pattern is so adorable, but really it was a pain to knit. I thought it was a lot smaller than it was (hence my inexperience with children), and the cables slowed progress down sooo much. On top of that, the yarn had lots of knots in it (Moda Dea Bamboo Wool), and there was so much sewing seams at the end. Also I think I may never want to knit a hood again. That sucked a lot of time out of this thing too.

The yarn took so long to dry that Saturday I put the piece on the drying rack on low heat, and it took about 5 turns of 50 minutes to dry it most the way through. I still am waiting today for the armpits to dry out, but it is still moist today. The dryer didn’t harm the knit though, which is good to know for the future.

Still, I think very nice results, and once this child turns 2 hopefully I can get some model pictures. The only modification I did on this was to do crochet chain closures instead of i-cord. I felt like it would require much less sewing!

For my next project, I meant to reknit the Lace Leaf Pullover with the recent Louet Riverstone Chunky yarn I bought, but it turns out that the chunky yarn is not so chunky. I could not get a nice looking gauge, and did not buy enough yarn to double it up, so instead I am casting on for a new knitty pattern, Pioneer. It caught my eye the other day, and seeing as it will be in a solid yarn (more my preference), I think it will be pretty, and nice for cooler summer days. I hope it comes out nice!
